New Billboard at NYC's High Line References Biggie
On Monday the High Line in New
York City revealed a new billboard commission from the artist Raymond
Pettibon. Pettibon converted his 2010 drawing "No Title (Safe he
called...)" into a billboard-sized work that features Jackie Robinson on
home plate.
On the left of the work appears the quote "Where Brooklyn At?"; an obvious salute to Brooklyn hip hop legend Notorious B.I.G. Below the scene appears "Moses: 'Out!" which is a pun on the baseball phrase as well as a reference to Robert Moses, the notorious former NYC chief of parks, roads, and public housing. Moses was responsible for the Dodgers relocating from Brooklyn to L.A., and if he'd had his way, a super-highway would cut through where Greenwich Village sits today.
The Highline is a unique park in NYC that sits atop an old elevated train track.
